Bulletproof Tiger is an instrumental live-electronic group from El Paso, TX. The plastic-tiger-mask-wearing duo is comprised of the aliased Bobby Miracles (guitar) and Jean-Luc Duvalier (keyboard/synth) who, after meeting in the summer of 2009, began playing together after discovering their passion for both dance/electronic music and hip-hop. Heavily influenced by such groups as Daft Punk, the Twelves and Gorillaz, the intensity and aggressive nature of Bulletproof Tiger’s “dance-bangers” are only complimented by the symbolism behind their tiger masks – which are never removed in public. The tiger masks help to represent the animalistic nature of their music.

Download: Orchestre Poly-Rythmo’s “Pardon”
Proving incontrovertibly that 20 years has done nothing to diminish Orchestre Poly-Rythmo’s capacity for fiery funk, “Pardon” shows the band in top form. Though the lyrics aren’t in English, the liner notes hint at their content: “Is forgiveness a Christian or a voodoo idea? It is simply necessary, answers Maximus Adjanohun, the band’s original guitarist. ‘Forgive, even if a man has tried to seduce your wife.’” Cononou Club, the group’s first new album in over 20 years, is available April 12th. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo – Pardon by Strut
Orchestre Poly-Rythmo are national institutions in Benin, West Africa. Formed during the late ’60s, they soundtracked the years following Benin’s independence under Kerekou’s Leninist – Marxist regime, whipping up a groundbreaking fusion of traditional highlife, Afrobeat, soul, funk and the indigenous styles and voodoo-led traditions of their homeland. Their songs touched on all of their national languages – the mina French dialect, Fon and Yoruba – and confidently referenced a broad range of international music from James Brown to Johnny Halliday. As well as forging their own success, they were the first port of call to back many of West Africa’s greatest artists, from Gnonnas Pedro to Manu Dibango and Bembeya Jazz.
The band’s reputation began spreading to Western audiences in 2004 through a breathtaking Soundway compilation of archive classics and rarities followed by two sumptuous collections on Analog Africa. Around the same time, French radio producer Elodie Maillot (Radio France, Vibrations, Mondomix) began seeking out the original band members in Benin. After a memorable radio interview, the musicians asked her to help them achieve their dream – to play once in a lifetime outside of Africa.
Since then, the band has reformed, now a 10-piece featuring five original members from the very first ‘60s incarnation, two from the mid-‘70s line-up and three new members. They have played many high profile concerts, bringing the infectious Poly-Rythmo sonic melting pot to a whole new generation of fans from the African Soul Rebels tour of major UK arts centres and the WOMAD festival to Lincoln Center in New York.
Recorded in Paris and produced by Maillot, Cotonou Club is the band’s first new album in over 20 years, a celebration of the Poly-Rythmo sound with new versions of the band’s classics, including massive West African hit ‘Gbeti Madjro’, and a host of new compositions. Guest appearances include African superstar Angelique Kidjo, who began her career in Poly-Rythmo’s backyard, new World Circuit signing Fatoumata Diawara and Paul Thomson and Nick McCarthy from indie favourites Franz Ferdinand, both huge fans of the group’s sound. Their collaboration, ‘Lion Is Burning’ storms through with its own unique energy.
The album will be released in four formats – two-disk limited edition, single CD version, double LP gatefold and digital. The limited two disk edition features an exclusive bonus film documenting their new recording sessions and following them band as they undertake their first ever international tour across Europe, USA and Brazil. The bonus disk also includes alternative album mixes and live recordings.
Orchestre Poly-Rythmo will be touring worldwide from Spring 2011.

MP3: A-WOLL – “The Big Bang Theory” Produced by Nottz
Compton, CA based MC A-WOLL has been keeping busy putting the finishing touches on his debut album, To Whom It May Concern, an album produced entirely by Grammy Award-wining producer Nottz that’s scheduled for release later this year. Following the recent release of “Active,” the first leak from the album on which Nottz was also featured, the pair are excited to release the latest teaser from the album, “The Big Bang Theory.”
Nottz, who knows a thing or two about producing for up-and-coming Compton rappers, having worked extensively with The Game in the past, sings nothing but high praises for the latest talent from the neighborhood Dr. Dre once called home. “A-WOLL is an artist that’s helping to bring a new heart beat to the West Coast,” explains Nottz on his excitement to be working together with the A-WOLL. And this new track, “The Big Bang Theory,” proves Nottz’ strong words to be warranted. Layered with head banging drums, mesmerizing keys, and street loyal lyrics, it‘s easy to see why the West Coast rapper is becoming a home town favorite, as A-WOLL raps, “Respect for the G’s, love for the turf/ Married to the block, for better or worst.”

We began printing shirts for local musicians and businesses. It wasn’t too long until we started printing our own designs. To get the merchandise out you can see us back pack hustling at festivals, setting up at loft parties and pushing our product any way possible. Boog Brown & Apollo Brown – “Friction” Feat. Miz Korona And Invincible
Boog Brown & Apollo Brown - Friction
The second single from the Brown Study album, “Friction”, is an unadulterated, rough, and hard-hitting track. Apollo Brown takes no prisoners on this “heat rock,” as Boog Brown best illustrates it. “Friction” opens with intensity and aggressiveness that leads into a firestorm of lyrics from Boog Brown. With a no nonsense line of attack, Boog shows off why she is quickly establishing herself as a lyrical heavy weight and holds her own along side longtime friends and lyrical specialists Invincible and Miz Korona, showing off wit and dexterity with lyrics like, “The goddess is all this and then some/ Thumbin’ my nose at hoes and all critics – you can all get it/ I’m authentic, arsenic wit a flow all liquid/ No argument/ Heavy weight lyrics like I move large shipments/ Bo-guard the diction/ Good God it’s sickening.” Like steel sharpening steel, the lyrical onslaught of Boog, Korona, and Invicible perfectly compliment Apollo’s unrelenting samples and heavy drums. The message of “Friction”? Boog puts it best: “No message per-se, just enjoy the dopeness and the next time you say ‘she’s dope for a female’ remember this joint.”
Boog Brown and Apollo Brown’s album Brown Study will be available September 28th via Mello Music Group.
